I gifted Nikon S-51 camera to my sister for Christmas. She shot around hundred images with it in Lexar memory card. After snapping the images when she took the card out of the camera and put it into the card reader and connected to the computer it said that the card was not formatted and it would not read any images. So, she just formatted the memory card and the pictures were lost. Now she wants them back, and I don’t know what to do? Does the memory cards need to format before its first use? Ans is there any way to get back the photos from Lexar memory card?

No, I don’t think you need to format your memory card before using it first time, but never pull a memory card from a camera or from PC when it's being accessed or used. Always eject or disconnect the card from the computer before taking it out. You can look on-line for digital recovery tools and you will definitely find some. A friend of mine once had also stuck with similar kind of problem and in his case there was really very large portion of the photos that were unreadable not the whole card. Since he also have Lexar memory card so he used Lexar Memory Card Recovery software and recovered most of them. So, try it.
